POSITION DESCRIPTION: The appointment will be a fiscal year, non-tenure, public service track faculty position in the Animal and Dairy Science Department (ADS), College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, The University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: The appointment will be 75% extension/25% teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with other ADS dairy faculty in providing youth and adult education programs. The position is expected to establish and maintain linkages with the dairy industry through the development and implementation of dairy youth and adult extension programs. Dairy youth programs include, but are not limited to, dairy youth quiz bowls, dairy judging contests, dairy shows, dairy youth retreats and conferences, and other dairy youth activities. Together with the other ADS dairy extension faculty, the position will be expected to provide scholarly adult education programs in their area(s) of expertise. Teaching will involve primary responsibility for teaching courses in dairy cattle evaluation and coaching the undergraduate dairy judging team. The position will also be involved in teaching some lab sections of courses providing hands-on instruction in dairy cattle handling, production and/or management. The person in the position will also be expected to mentor/advise undergraduates, assist in Departmental recruiting activities, and serve as an advisor to student club(s).

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Dairy Science, Animal Science or a related field at the time of appointment. Experience in working with youth dairy livestock programs and training in one or more of the following areas are desirable: nutrition, physiology, reproduction, mastitis control and/or production/management in dairy cattle. The successful candidate must have ability and interest in teaching and coaching young people in all stages of development in dairy evaluation and judging and must have practical hands-on experience with dairy cattle. The ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form is required. The position requires extensive contact with Georgia Dairy Industry clientele, youth and undergraduate students; therefore, the candidate must be able to effectively teach and interact with people in widely varying circumstances.

SALARY: Salary commensurate with training and experience.
