Research Associate (This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: Department of Plant Pathology & Crop Physiology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Conduct field and laboratory research on molecular biology of plant pathogens. Routine duties include: collecting plant tissue sample from affected trees in urban landscape, perform DNA isolation, PCR and restriction digestion, gel electrophoresis, and DNA sequence analysis; and daily lab activities including, maintaining experimental materials, equipment, and plant tissue specimens.

QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. or M. S. degree in Plant pathology or related field. Excellent skills in molecular biology techniques are required as is willingness to learn new techniques. Experience in working with fungi, microbial cultures, and/or microscopy is preferred. A valid Louisiana State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment. The successful candidate must be willing to use his/her own vehicle to travel to sampling sites, if needed. The successful candidate must be fluent in speaking English.
