Senior International animal production specialist - Wageningen University

Wageningen UR Livestock Research develops and applies knowledge for a profitable and sustainable livestock sector and agri-business in countries worldwide. Therefore we cooperate in international research programs and carry out projects all over the world. The focus is on valorising and internationalising knowledge and technology of Wageningen UR Livestock Research in developing countries and emerging economies. Within our expertise we currently focus on the following themes: 1) Dairy, poultry, pig and fish subsector development, 2) Sustainable intensification of animal production chains, 3) Fodder improvements, 4) Nutrient cycles, 5) Robust breeds, and 6) Farm management.We are looking forAn Animal Production specialist / project manager / researcher, who wants to contribute to strengthening local capacities to improve animal production systems and inclusive agri-business in this sector. Linking public and private sectors is pivotal in this field.We are looking for a scientist or development practitioner who can implement and manage assignments in the field of livestock development/animal production systems. Our increasing portfolio contains short and longer term projects on dairy and poultry production. The work includes short-term assignments in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and, to a lesser extent, Latin America. The area of attention includes fodder development, good dairy farming practices, value chain development (particularly input & service supply systems), and public-private partnerships. Clients include government agencies, public-private partnerships, international organizations, and development agencies.If selected, you will be part of a dynamic team that develops and implements the international project portfolio of Wageningen UR Livestock Research in the area of animal production. You will contribute to the implementation of the current portfolio of activities and will enhance Livestock Research's international profile through networking and representation. In addition, you will contribute to further development of the international portfolio in animal production through acquisition of new projects.

Description

We ask A MSc or PhD degree in animal sciences, animal health, or social sciences with a livestock orientation;A minimum of 10 years of working experience in the area of livestock research and development in Asia and Africa, with a focus on the dairy chain and fodder;A good international and Dutch network in the livestock sector and the ability to work with the business-, government-, NGO-, and academic worlds;A strong interest in linking theory with policy and practice;Excellent communication skills with a strong ability to work and communicate across boundaries/cultures;A proven ability to acquire and manage a project portfolio with a variety of clients;Willingness to travel extensively (short missions);Excellent English language skills; French, Portuguese and/or Spanish language skills will be an added benefit.

Benefits

We offerAn initial one year contract of 36 hours per week with a performance based possibility for extension. Scale 11 CAO Stichting DLO: minimum salary: € 3017, maximum salary: € 4687 gross per month (based on fulltime employment), depending on education and experience. In addition we offer a holiday allowance of 8% of the annual salary and an end of year benefit of 3%.
