Remarks

Within the Aula Dei Campus in Montañana (Zaragoza), the Centro de Investigación y Tecnología Agroalimentaria de Aragón has several livestock facilities for intensive housing of cattle and sheep (fattening and rebreeding):

  • Semi-open park for cattle
  • Three sheds for sheep
  • One lambing shed
  • One shed for breeding stock

They are equipped with the corresponding feeding and water supply systems, animal handling and classification elements, and in compliance with all applicable legislation on animal welfare, animal health, biosafety and the environment.

Among these facilities, there is an experimental building equipped for sheep artificial lactation tests and for in situ digestibility tests on cannulated animals. It is equipped with metabolic cages and the rest of the usual facilities in a production farm.

There are also livestock facilities in other locations located in the agro-livestock experimental farms.

  • El Vedado bajo del horno: fenced plots for permanently grazing sheep and livestock facilities for their shelter. In addition, special facilities for carrying out tests related to the health of wild rabbits.
  • Garcipollera: Livestock facilities for the maintenance of the herds of the two breeds of cattle (Parda de Montaña and Pirenaica) and sheep (Churra Tensina).

These facilities are registered in the Registro General de Explotaciones Ganaderas (REGA).
