Food Animal Microbiome Assistant/Associate Professor - Purdue University

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor, tenure-track (9-month) position at Purdue University with research and teaching responsibilities related to food animal microbiomes.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in animal sciences, intestinal and/or ruminal microbiology, microbiology, bioinformatics or related field. Research experience in microbial ecology and community assessment in animals, humans, and/or pre- or post-harvest food systems is essential. Postdoctoral training and research experience or training in immunology is desirable.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant must develop a record of nationally- and/or internationally-recognized scholarship and extramural funding in research related to microbiomes, including the impact of production practices, nutrition and/or the environment on microbial communities relevant to animal health, well-being and/or product quality and safety. Interaction with other faculty members in the College of Agriculture and other colleges, such as Veterinary Medicine and Health and Human Sciences, as well as other programs such as the Interdisciplinary Nutrition Program and Ingestive Behavior Research Center is also expected. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the graduate and undergraduate teaching programs in animal sciences, advise graduate and undergraduate students, and engage in national and international activities.

The Department eagerly anticipates the construction of a new Animal Sciences complex, scheduled for occupancy in 2017. The facilities will include the new Creighton Hall of Animal Sciences, housing state-of- the-art research laboratories, classrooms, conference space and offices, and the adjoining Land O’ Lakes Experiential Learning Center and Purina Pavilion, which will include a new meats laboratory and animal arena. The new facilities will consolidate all Animal Sciences faculty and staff, along with scientists in the USDA-ARS Livestock Behavior Unit, and other supporting agencies, within a single complex, maximizing interactions and progress towards our missions.
