The E-Food Project Implementation Has Started

The implementation of the "E-learning tools for Food technology and development education (E-Food)" project, financed under key action 2 of the Erasmus+ program began at the beginning of December 2022. The University of Food Technologies - Plovdiv, University “Claude Bernard” Lyon, France, University “Lucian Blaga”, Sibiu, Romania, University of Zaragoza, Spain, and University of Debrecen, Hungary are partners in the project. The amount of funding provided for the project is 250,000 euros. The coordinator of the project is the University of Food Technology, and the head of the consortium is Prof. Georgi Kostov, DSc.

The project consortium has set itself the ambitious task of developing educational standards to unify curricula for student training in the field of food technology. Problems that have been observed for years in the implementation of mobility of students and teachers within the framework of the Erasmus+ program will be solved within the framework of the project. In addition to the development of standards for classical training, the project partners envisage the development of educational standards and training materials for the so-called continuing education - realization of short-term courses in the form of specializations.

The project will be implemented in three main work packages and one project management package. The development of the educational standards, which will lay the foundation for the creation of educational databases containing traditional food products, characteristic of each of the project partner countries, raw materials, processes and innovations in the production of food and beverages, will begin in the first year of the project implementation. A multidisciplinary team of specialists in the field of food technology, microbiology, biochemistry, marketing, nutrition has been created to carry out the tasks.

The first face-to-face meeting of the project consortium will be held at the end of January, 2023 in Bourg-en-Bresse, France. Until then, the project team will start developing a website and creating social media accounts. Thus, all interested parties will be able to find out about the project activities, upcoming events, student trainings and others.

The project is a sustainable continuation of long-standing cooperation between the partners. UFT, University "Claude Bernard", Lyon, France, and the University of Zaragoza, Spain, are working on developing concepts for the so-called tailor-made foods within the framework of the project "Strengthening the research excellence and innovation capacity of University of Food Technologies - Plovdiv through the sustainable development of tailor-made food systems with programmable properties", financed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria. In the period 2016 - 2019, UFT, University “Claude Bernard” Lyon, France, University “Lucian Blaga”, Sibiu, Romania and University of Debrecen were partners in the project "Knowledge triangle for food innovation by harnessing the tradition and ensuring sustainability (KNOWinFOOD)", also financed by the Erasmus+ program.
