The Riddet Institute, a Centre of Research Excellence, brings together leading academics from Massey University, the University of Auckland, the University of Otago, Plant and Food Research and AgResearch and has well-established international connections and partnerships. The Institute focuses on research and education at the nexus of food science and human nutrition.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral position funded by the Riddet Institute. You will be based at the Massey Institute of Food Science and Technology, Palmerston North and will join an experienced and innovative team drawn from the Riddet Institute's partner organisations. As part of the Structuring Foods for Optimal Functionality and Health platform, you will contribute to the delivery of new research aimed at determining the role of food microstructure on specific physiological biomarkers that are known to be responsive to nutrient intake. In particular, you will be investigating how food structure dynamics influence the delivery and functionality of bioactive components known to have anti-inflammatory properties, and subsequent long term impact on health markers associated with inflammation.

The specific areas of research to which you will be expected to contribute are:

  •     organising, running and documenting in vitro analyses
  •     development of short and long terms human studies to determine acute and chronic effects associated with bioactive availability and uptake
  •     ongoing development of research objectives based on interpretation and evaluation of findings
  •     writing articles for high-impact scientific journals
  •     facilitating good communication within the project team, and that project milestones are met
  •     supporting the development of the wider platform research programme through assistance with training and mentoring of PhD students.
