Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the Data Coordination and Archiving Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) in a cutting edge biocuration role.
Your responsibilities will include work on submissions and validation services for data flowing into EMBL-EBI’s archival data resources, with a particular focus on the European Nucleotide Archive, the globally comprehensive resource covering sequence reads, assemblies, alignments and functional annotation, and the BioSample database, a resource for the integration of information about biological samples used in molecular assays.
Reporting to the ENA and Microbial Data Content Coordinator tasks will include the development and maintenance of validation rules for functional annotation, curation of checklists for standards-compliant sample information reporting and the delivery of expert helpdesk and training to our broad user base. In addition, after a training period, you will provide operational support to collaborators engaged in specific projects, for example pathogen surveillance and marine environmental initiatives, that may include data management and project-specific training. The position will offer opportunities to present at national and international scientific meetings and workshops.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess a university degree in the life sciences and a post-graduate degree in bioinformatics or a biological science.
Requirements:
Broad knowledge of molecular biology;
In depth and up-to-date knowledge of biological databases, sequence analysis and software;
Familiarity with command line operations;
Attention to detail;
Strong English communication skills (written and verbal);
Good organisational and presentation skills;
Ability to work to deadlines.
Highly desired:
Professional experience in the bioinformatics domain;
Familiarity with relational database management systems.
