PHYTO-PHARM: Bioactive plant substances and the pharmaceutical sciences
B44_23R

Ever since 2020, Phyto-Pharm has been recognized by the Government of Aragon as a Benchmark Reference Group (Grupo de investigación de referencia). Based at the Universidad San Jorge (USJ) in Zaragoza, Phyto-Pharm is a multidisciplinary group made up of pharmacists, veterinarians, biologists, nutritionists, chemists, and biochemists. The group conducts studies on the subjects of bioactivity and/or toxicity of active principles, extracts, and matrices stemming from plants or foods in different models (in vitro and in vivo). Another significant area of study is the quality of individualized prescription medication. The group’s main objective is the investigation of bioactive components of natural origin with potential pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and agrifood applications, and to develop and compose medicinal drugs and other products of therapeutical interest.

What do we do?
  • Natural anti-oxidants, polyphenols, and bioactive compounds that offer protection against oxidative stress
  • Pharmacology of natural products. The search for active principles of therapeutical interest: components with anti-diabetic, anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective activity.
  • Observational and consumer studies related to medication/drugs, hygiene products, and food supplements
  • Ensuring the Quality of Individualized Medicine
